Janice has earned a reputation as one of broadcasting’s leading consumer reporters. It’s a skill she first honed as an anchor and reporter at WIVB, Channel 4 from 1983 through 1989. For the past 14 years, Lieberman has been part of NBC News, serving as consumer reporter for The Today Show. She is this year’s recipient of the BBA’s Buffalo Bob Smith Award.

Lieberman began her career as an intern at ABC News in 1981, where she was a researcher. Following graduation from Rutgers University, Lieberman took her research skills to WCBS-TV in New York, where she spent the next two years. In 1983, Lieberman went from behind the scenes to on-camera as part of the News 4 Buffalo team at Channel 4. She specialized in consumer reporting but also did some anchoring during her time at Channel 4.

From Buffalo, Lieberman went to the then-fledgling CNBC, where she hosted Steals and Deals, a nightly investigative consumer finance show. She was honored with two cable ACE Awards in 1991 and 1993 while hosting the CNBC show.

In 1997, Lieberman joined ABC News as consumer reporter for Good Morning America, before signing on with NBC in 1999.

In addition to her broadcasting experience, Lieberman’s career includes a stint as contributing editor for Readers Digest, where she pens the column Here’s the Deal. Additionally, Lieberman serves as an expert contributor to the Fine Living Network, offering consumer tips to viewers. She has her own website, Janice Lieberman Everyday Solutions where she blogs about topics of interest to consumers.

Lieberman is the author of two books, Tricks of the Trade: A Consumer Survival Guide and How to Shop for a Husband. She has written articles for Redbook, Fit Pregnancy and Lifestyle magazines and has been a contributor to the TV shows Oprah, Montel and Leeza. Lieberman lives in New Jersey with her husband, Steve Gerber, and two sons.
